Boanerges is derived from Mark 3:17
In Mark 3:17, Jesus gives the nickname Boanerges (meaning “Sons of Thunder“) to the brothers James and John, the sons of Zebedee. This Aramaic term likely reflects their passionate, fiery, or zealous personalities, as shown by their desire to call down fire on a Samaritan village in an earlier account. The nickname highlights their impetuous and bold spirit in proclaiming the Gospel, similar to how Peter was named “rock” to signify his future role.
